Prepping for freezing temperatures is an important part of spa maintenance. If you don’t plan to use your Garden Leisure Spa™ during these frosty times, draining the spa is recommended.
- Drain the spa completely; making certain all water is removed.
- If your pump has freeze plugs, remove them.
- Use a shop vacuum on all jets and plumbing lines, making sure any excess water is removed.
- Remove and clean the filter cartridge. Store it during the season in a secure place where it will not freeze.
- Cover your spa securely.
Consult your owner’s manual and your local Garden Leisure Spa dealer for additional and region specific tips. If you use your spa through the winter months, do not turn the unit off with water in the spa. Frozen water may rupture the plumbing. Don’t forget to continue your normal operating procedure during this time. When you aren’t using your spa, be sure to keep it covered. This will help to maintain the water’s heat and save on your energy bills. Also, be sure your cover is secured properly and in good shape for maximum heat savings. Many spa owners also invest in a floating thermal blanket, placed between the water and the cover. This can drastically cut down on heat loss.
